National Occupational Classification List

National Occupational Code is the nationwide classification of Canada that categorizes the occupations based on the responsibility and occupation of an individual. It is an acknowledged and homogeneous process that allocates a four-digit code along with the job description to all the professions and employment in the Canadian labor market.

Every separate occupation in the Canadian labor market maintains a NOC code. The Code is allocated by the use of the NOC matrix. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada use the NOC finder Canada to assess the immigrant’s profile based on their work familiarity and understanding. The NOC codes are one of the major prime parts of the immigration request. The immigrant has to maintain a NOC code that goes well with their profile and domain.

The NOC Code is assigned to an applicant on the basis of their skill type and skill level. The first two digits of NOC code is skill type and the last two digits is for skill level.

IRCC categorized Occupation under 5 Skill levels as below:

  • Skill Level O -Management Jobs
  • Skill Level A- Professional Jobs that usually require a University Degree
  • Skill Level B- Technical Jobs and skilled trade jobs that usually require a College Diploma
  • Skill level C- Intermediate Jobs that usually require High School Education or specific job training
  • Skill Level D- Labor Jobs that usually require

 

All the management employment that come under Skill level 0, A or B are deemed to be high skilled work jobs. Any occupation that falls under skill level C or D is considered low-skilled work. For certain occupations that fall under semi-skilled work, the NOC skill level for this work is categorized as A, B, or C. Even if the Applicant’s Occupation Comes under Skill Level C or Level D, they have a number of choices to come, work and re-settle in Canada.

Restaurant managers, Mine managers, Shore captains, HR Manager, Marketing Managers, Construction Manager

NOC Type A

This category comprises professional jobs that require a degree from a university or college:
Doctors, Dentists, Architects, Professors, Scientists

NOC Type B


NOC Type B

This category is for technical jobs and skilled traders. To this the immigrant need have a college diploma or training as an apprentice in the following areas:
Chefs, Plumbers, Electricians, Mechanics

NOC Type C


NOC Type C

This category is generally concerned with intermediate jobs that mainly call for high school or specific training. The following are the jobs that fall under NOC type C:
Industrial butchers, Long-haul truck drivers, Food and beverage servers


NOC Type D

This category primarily concerns on labor jobs like:
Fruit pickers, Cleaning staff, Oil field workers

If you want to move towards to Canada as a skilled immigrant (Express Entry)

  • Your employment, and the work you have done in the past, must be skill type 0, or level A or B to use Express Entry. The Express Entry system runs applications for permanent residence if you want be considered:
  • as a Federal Skilled Worker
  • under the Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • under the Canadian Experience Class

If you want to come to Canada on the basis of skilled immigrant (Atlantic Immigration Program)

  • Your work experience must be skill type/level 0, A, B, or C.

If your employment is skill level C or D

  • you may be able to come to Canada as a provincial nominee (all skill types/levels),
  • you may be able to come to Canada through the Atlantic Immigration Program (skill type/level 0, A, B, or C), or
  • You may be able to work here for up to two years.
